Vampire dog is a very brilliant idea for a teens movie. Collin MacKeshnie and Dylan Sthamann are simply impressive and very skillful boy actors and Norm McDonald who performed Fang's voice is uniquely funny. The red jelly thought is ideal for the perfect plot line because instead of blood Ace's pet needs gelatine to stay alive. Ace the new kid at school does not have pleasurable experience especially that he is the teacher's son. The mean girls misstreat him and almost everyonelse so he has no real company but his dog. The chances of Ace are too thin and the likelihood of developing frindship relations in his new town is almost absent.
However, things start to change when Skyalar who helps Ace deal successfully with his difficult situation. Considering Fang , she helps him walk under sunlight remarkably well. Moreover,Skylar is cooperative and helpful in the classroom. I like the super HD quality of the footage as well as the story and the exellent acting. However, I honestly prefer a better and more important role for Murray Arbuckle who would have forged a better and more friendly treatment towards Ace. But anyway, G. Anderson and his team have done some genius piece of cinema because both the genesis and ending are accumulating to the whole idea and magnificent music and picture. I wouls also thank the makeup depatment as well as the costume and wardrobe guys for their tremendous work. The film is released on DVD for streaming, and download on-demand in 2012. It was shot in Moose Jaw and Ontario, Canada then later in Alberta due to lack of credit. But despite all the finacial difficulties, the crew managed to complete that magnificent cinema work.
Many people had very low expectations before watching this film and I don't get it because the trailer is pretty cool as well as the first footage. The movie is funny at times as Tracy MacMenemy did a great job writing the story. I like the formula of this movie which is typical somehow as the bad grown-ups are always outwitted by kids. I wonder why MacDonald, Fang's voice, never took off as a comedian mega star because he did perform in other movies and did big time job.
Ace's incident when playing the drums at first day at school is one of the best scenes. I find principle Hickman a funny charachter as well even if he's the bad guy here trying to sell the school to the two villains so Warhol can turn it into a beauty facility. This film isn't bad. I don’t know why it gets such bad reviews. The whole idea behind it is to focus on physical comedy and gags, it doesn’t rely on just entertaining young teens which is the target audience.
